• I like to say that working with a therapist is like navigating a road trip with a GPS. You are driving the vehicle and you determine the destination and the therapist (GPS) can provide helpful information and guidance to safely and efficiently help you towards your destination. While detours or side trips may be indicated at time, you are always the person in management of the trip. I believe a part my therapeutic role is to be an encouraging coach, identifying your amazing strengths as well as kindly reflect your challenges that you may not be clearly aware of.

  • I am a kind, compassionate therapist that is fairly direct in my delivery. I will challenge you. I will encourage you to stretch yourself further than you believe you are capable, but only as far as I believe you can go. I bring sarcasm, humor, pop culture, sometimes a little “colorful” or adult language into the session.

Interesting things about me is that I am a combat veteran. I also am diagnosed with ADHD.

This is an interesting combination because I have a lot of energy. I get excited with and for my patients in session. Having ADHD sometimes means I interrupt. I closely monitor this and welcome feedback if my delivery makes you feel unheard. Although interruption is a characteristic I’m not thrilled about, the benefit of having ADHD is I also have exceptional ability to notice a lot of small details and be able to connect them into the bigger picture of your concerns.

For me, being a veteran, gives me great empathy for those struggling with their life experiences. I understand suffering, sacrifice and loss and I am not afraid to be fully present with you as your process and work through your pain. Sometimes it takes someone who can relate to your experiences for you to fully trust them. I find that people get that about me.

  • Call or email and request a brief 10-15 free consultation for us to discuss your concerns and identify if Adjusting Compass Counseling is a possible fit for your needs or if a referral is appropriate.

  • Prior to your first session, you will be emailed forms to complete prior to your session. They include intake questions, information about how your privacy is managed, expectations of costs for sessions and cancellations/no shows. Additionally, I send a questionnaire related to current symptoms you may be experiencing.

In the first 1-3 sessions, depending on your needs, we will discuss your paperwork, the current concerns bringing you into therapy and discuss what therapy may look like for you individually as we move forward and create your treatment plan. We will additionally schedule you for your follow up appointments.

Thereafter, therapy will be about working through your concerns at the pace you feel comfortable with.

  • The length of therapy is entirely dependent upon the problem(s) you are needing to address. For some clients, if the problem is newer, is problematic but not affecting many areas of their lives, then therapy can be as brief as 4-20 sessions.

For others experiencing a lifetime of difficulties from these concerns, therapy can extend months to years depending on the progress and investment in their treatment. My professional belief is, therapy is a very individualistic experience, and no treatment length can be effectively generalized.

  • Currently, for individual patients, I am in network with Aetna, Cigna, and United Healthcare. I do not take insurance for couple’s therapy.

For all others, I would be considered out-of-network. If you have a health insurance policy, it may provide some coverage for out-of-network for mental health treatment. It is your responsibility to verify these benefits. If interested, I will provide you with an invoice or “superbill” containing all the relevant information so that you can complete your insurance reimbursement forms.

Be aware that not all insurance companies will accept the superbill from out of network providers. If your treatment needs do not warrant a clinical diagnosis specific to each and every session, insurance nearly always declines to pay for care without a diagnosis. Examples of these may be relationship problems, low self-esteem, and general life stress.

Additionally, please be aware, using insurance means not only that insurance billing requires a clinical diagnosis, but it also additionally means that a treatment plan may be requested by your insurance, and at times, even session notes. Your insurance may additionally be directive in how they determine reimbursement and your course of treatment.

  • I accept cash, personal check, Venmo HSA, FSA, and all credit cards.

I require that prior to your first session, you have a credit card on file for payment for session fees as well as any late cancellations/no shows. If you choose to use an alternate form of payment, please alert your therapist so your credit card is not charged prior to the session, as is customary.
